Grant turns 5

My sweet baby turned 5 years old today! It is crazy to think back on how fast the last five years have gone by. It seems like overnight he went from liking Diego to Transformers and Hot Wheels! He won't be going to Kindergarten this year but this is still such a milestone birthday. We went to church this morning and then headed to Peter Piper Pizza for a fun lunch. Tonight we had our small group where Grant had a special treat-Mr. Michael (or uncle Michael as Grant likes to call him) took Grant and his friend Henry to get ice cream while we had our small group meeting. That made him feel so special. We are having a party next weekend so the celebrating will continue!

Dear Grant,
Words fail me when I try to explain how much I love you. You are one incredible kid! At five years old you are still as spunky as ever. Your zeal for life amazes me. Everything you do you go at it with all you have. You ask at least a hundred questions a day which makes me believe your mind never stops! I always have to be on my toes with you because I never know what is going to come out of your mouth. You have been asking so many questions about God and how He works lately. I love that you are wanting to learn more about the One who created you. My prayer is that the interest you are showing turns into a passion for the Lord. That is my greatest hope for you and Kamryn!

Last year on your 4th birthday you were just learning to read. This year you have taken off in your reading and writing. You are also doing addition and we have no idea where you learned that. When I ask you how you know that 5+2=7 you say, "I just knew". That made your dad and I question if we should go ahead and send you to Kindergarten. In the end we stuck with our early decision to keep you home another year. I feel excited and peaceful about having one more year with you before you start school.

You still love animals, dinosaurs and all things squishy. While those things provide hours of fun for you, your favorite thing to do is play with Kamryn. I love how serious you have taken your role as a big brother. I have seen you try to protect her so many times now...pushing her out of the way of the closing elevator doors, grabbing her hand and pulling her away when she gets a little too close to the street, explaining to me why she really doesn't need to go to time out ("she didn't mean to, Mommy"). I could go on and on about how much you love your sister. And the feeling is definitely mutual. She follows you around and does exactly what you are doing. You are truly best friends and I pray it is always that way. You also love your wrestling matches with Daddy. I think he just might enjoy those more than you do. You and Daddy also share the gift of drawing. Many days I find you sitting together drawing super heroes or animals. That is not something I can do very well so that is an extra special treat for you.

Grant, I just love being your mommy. You really do bring me so much joy and there is nothing I would rather do than spend my days loving and caring for you and Kamryn. Happy 5th birthday, sweet boy!

Love, Mommy
